Workshop Description

Acts of Witness gives you the opportunity to transform your life script. Through improvisation, drama therapy, psychodrama, Playback Theatre, mindfulness, sense memory, and playwriting techniques, you will develop the skills to explore formative experiences and messages, reclaim lost or repressed aspects of your “self,” work through feelings of unexpressed grief, and rewrite and integrate a new, life-affirming narrative or social vision.

This work will include supportive weekly group exploration and training, personal work with an individual drama therapist/director, and culminate in a therapeutic theatre performance the weekend of February 9, 10, and 11, 2012.

Skills and techniques that you will experience and develop include:

● Sensory awareness and mindfulness approaches
● Sound and movement transformations
● Group and solo improvisation
● Sense memory
● Personal storytelling and narration
● Character, monologue, and scene development
● Sociodrama and Psychodrama
● Drama Therapy
● Playback Theatre
● Embodied inner-critic work

The Acts of Witness process involves:
● Defining a strong therapeutic goal or intention

● A readiness for personal risk-taking and investment of time, creativity and psychic energy
● A commitment to developing your personal theatre piece outside of the group (with the guidance of a drama therapist/director)
● 16 three-hour group sessions (at $60/session)
February 27, 2012 – June 25, 2012 (Group does not meet on June 4 and June 11)
● Ten to fifteen 1.5 hour individual sessions with an assigned drama therapist/director; fee to be arranged with the drama therapist/director ($75 minimum for 1.5 to 3 hour sessions)
● Cost of the theatre rental and stage manager shared by the group
● A one-hour technical rehearsal the week of the performance
● Supportive attendance at and participation during the performance weekend required June 1, 2, 3, 2012
