A variety of drama therapy techniques are utilized, including improvisation, acting techniques, Psychodrama, Playback Theatre and creative ritual. Major drama therapy theorists, covering key drama therapy concepts, such as play, ritual, distancing and role are explored.
The experiential portion of the class focuses on the application of drama therapy as a powerful tool in working with individuals, couples and groups. The didactic portion of the course offers a theoretical basis and rationale for the use of drama therapy in multiple clinical situations. Topics include the Five Phase Model, the role of drama therapist, use of self in action, containing space, working with deep emotion, developmental transformations, the use of other expressive arts with drama therapy and myth and storytelling.
