Intercultural Couples Group

A therapy group for couples in interracial/intercultural and/or interfaith relationships

 

When: Tuesdays, September 14th – December 14th; 7:00pm – 9:30pm

Where: 1800 Market St, Rm 302, San Francisco

Cost: $80 per couple, per session (limited partial scholarships available)

•    Does your partner understand your cultural background or beliefs?

•    How do differing values and norms affect your sex life?

•    Do you experience a sense of loss or guilt in having chosen a partner not from your faith, race or culture?

•    Do you have different values and beliefs about childrearing?

•    How has your family or community responded to your relationship?

This group provides couples with a safe and supportive space in which to explore and address challenges arising from racial, ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Other issues will be explored according to the needs of participants.

Through a process that cultivates intimacy, creativity and playfulness, participants will gain the opportunity to deepen skills in compassionate communication and conflict transformation.  Couples from across the spectrum of sexual orientation and gender identification are welcomed.

Therapeutic modalities will include drama therapy, psychodrama, expressive art therapy, and talk therapy.

About the facilitators:

Allegra T. Lucas is a psychotherapist, drama therapist and group facilitator. She works with individuals, families, and couples on the development of compassionate communication. Her work with intercultural couples encourages personal identity exploration, and inspires greater appreciation of the dynamics involved in a cross-cultural relationship.  Allegra coaches couples in the practice of awareness and helps them to reinvigorate their curiosity in one another’s experience.  Allegra is an MFT Trainee supervised by Armand Volkas, MFT, RDT/BCT, MFC#28789

Ben Rivers is an Australian psychotherapist, drama therapist and group facilitator with over 10 years of experience working with clients diverse in age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. Ben has a professional background in conflict transformation at the interpersonal and community level.
