I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in |
I have counseled a diverse range of people dealing with trauma and medical issues, both acute and chronic. During my years in a hospital setting, I have worked with patients and their families, dealing with the basic anxieties/depressions related to illness, as well as major losses (including end of life issues). I have also worked with patients and their families who have dementia. These patients have had an unexpected and powerful effect on my work and myself. I have developed a deep appreciation for the spontaneous moments—both joyful, and poignant—that arise out of authentic engagement.
I have an extensive dance background and have taught Pilates and movement education for over fifteen years. My background as a dancer and movement therapist has informed and impassioned my work with those struggling with body image/disordered eating, anxiety/depression, relationships and identity. I also enjoy working with adults, of all ages, dealing with chronic and acute illness, including families and caregivers.
I use traditional talk therapy combined with body/mindfulness and the expressive arts. My diverse background has helped me integrate these disciplines into my work. I use these in tandem, as they bring attention to the self and can be meaningful ways to self-soothe, express, create… and live more fully. These practices and tools can be effective in pain management, anxiety reduction and, generally, becoming more comfortable with yourself.
My experience and training has helped me cultivate a unique blend of working in depth and with the creative and playful moment. I believe that we all have the capacity to heal and that the therapeutic relationship can be a meaningful part of this process.
