Graduate Students from CIIS Course on Armenian Memories
A 90th Anniversary Commemoration, Performance & Ritual Friday, July 1st, 2005 Free Admission Directed by This performance commemorates the events leading up to and following the Armenian Genocide of 1915 by the leaders of the Ottoman Empire and Republic of Turkey. This event is held especially in memory of the hundreds of thousands of Armenians who were forced to march bare-foot through the Der El-Zor Syrian Desert and the 1.5 million Armenians who were killed during this genocide. Members of the Armenian community come together to share their struggle for healing and integration through theatre, music, poetry and ritual. Personal and collective stories are publicly witnessed and transformed into theatre pieces through Playback Theatre and other interactive theatre elements.
